If you are looking for a data protection impact assessment example, we have provided a video overview of our bestselling template in this post. A Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) is a tool used to comply with the UK GDPR. It is a risk-based approach that assesses the impact and risks associated with high-risk processing.

The assessment criteria and impact analysis in a DPIA is extensive. For this reason, Know Your Compliance Limited have developed a template for completing your own impact assessment. Available in both Word and Excel formats, our DPIA tool complies with the GDPR and DPA18. In addition, completing the assessment identifies the risks associated with data processing and posed to data subjects.
The aim of the DPIA is to mitigate risk and impact where a processing activity is likely to cause a high risk to one or more individuals. When assessing the processing, you should seek to either elimiate, reduce or accept the risks.
Individuals have an expectation that the privacy and confidentiality of their information will be upheld. When the risks of processing are high, you must use a data protection impact assessment to assess and quantify the risk(s). Refer to Article 35(3) of the GDPR to decide if and when completing an impact assessment is necessary.
